Distribution

Risk Free

Many small and medium sized publishers want to dip their toe in to the eBooks market but do not know how to. There are a number of digital printing companies who offer distribution and conversion of eBooks but a lot of these will offer one service and not the other. Vivlia provides a one-stop shop for producing, publishing and selling eBooks. Our services include:

Conversion of publishers’ files

We create your eBook in all of the formats required by major eBook wholesalers and retailers, mainly ePUB and .Mobi. Our formats are also ‘future proofed.’ If any new formats are developed, the formats we have used will be applicable.

Submitting your eBook files

We submit your eBook to over 1000 international eBook retailers and wholesalers and 45,000 libraries in over 110 countries so that your eBooks are available on a truly worldwide basis. Our retail partners include Apple, Amazon (UK, Europe and the USA), Google Books, Baker & Taylor, Blackwell’s and Waterstone’s Online (Full list available upon request). If you wish to restrict the sale of your eBook in certain countries, tell us in our metadata spreadsheet.

Managing payments

We collect income from sales and pay this to the publishers, thereby cutting down on your administration.

No annual cost

Whilst some distribution companies offer similar services, ours is unique in that we charge no annual cost for making your eBooks available at distributors such as Amazon, which can cost over £100 per year per book before you sell a single copy. We only ask that you pay for the initial conversion. Everything else – output to multiple formats, the delivery of your eBook to over 100 distribution platforms, including North America, Europe and Asia – is done for you (Click here to get an estimate).

You could of course negotiate your own deals with eBook retailers, but each distributor and eBook aggregator will require separate negotiation and a separate contract. Should you decide to use our service, there is only one contract; everything else is done for you. It’s virtually risk free. And as we hold all our eBooks in an industry-standard format, it’s very unlikely that we will need to reconvert any files in the future. For example, we’ve held Kindle eBooks in colour since it was incepted, so when the Kindle Fire was released in September 2012, there was no need for us to spend time reconverting any files as they already displayed colour.

Payment Terms

We have endeavored to make the system as simple as possible: You decide the list price of the eBook and Vivlia submits information about the eBook to wholesalers and retailers. Any income from the sale of the eBook is then paid to you minus 20% of the net sales income (i.e. after discounts to wholesalers and retailers have been deducted). These payments are made to you 60 days after the end of each quarter. For larger publishers, we make a monthly payment. Payments are made automatically, there is no need to send an invoice. We will also give you a regularly updated spreadsheet that lists all your eBooks sales by retailer, how many have sold and where the eBooks have sold.

Marketing and promotion

The average physical book spends less than three months on bookstore shelves, yet an eBook has the potential to be available for sale year in, year out. Selling eBooks is rather different to selling print titles and we can provide you with a handy checklist of marketing and sales tips. You may also find it advantageous to contact retailers in regards to promotional activities of your eBook, but we will always notify you of retailer proposed promotional schedules. As well as this, we can provide additional paid services such as creating an author page or using social marketing. This helps greatly in fan engagement and promotion of your eBook sales online. You leave the chore of marketing your eBook in the hands of trained professionals who know exactly which areas to target. Don’t forget, we want your book to sell just as much as you do!
